NICKI’S ARREST.

Whether against Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, or Miley Cyrus, the singer/rapper has had her fair share of rap beef and diss tracks. But this time, things went a little overboard, involving much more than just a fellow competitor.

On the 25th of May 2024, the police force of Amsterdam apprehended Nicki Minaj upon her arrival in the Netherlands, accusing her of drug possession. When this unfortunate event happened, the artist was about to commence on the European section of the Pink Friday 2 world tour.

WHY WAS NICKI MINAJ ARRESTED IN AMSTERDAM?

The artist arrived at the Amsterdam airport to catch her flight to Manchester for her next show on her ongoing Pink Friday 2 World Tour. Upon the arrival of the Amsterdam’s police, she therefore, began recording the events that followed in an Instagram Live, Nicki Minaj shared what seemed like a police officer saying she was being detained for “carrying drugs”, requesting her to get into a police vehicle.

She also, provided regular updates to her fans (AKA barbz) on X (formerly Twitter), and believes it was an intentional act to terminate her concert.

In the above video, a police officer approached the rapper and informed her that her bags had to go through a “security check.” She was thereby apprehended for carrying marijuana pre-rolls in her luggage and was instructed to have all her bags removed from the plane and subjected to a thorough search.

The airport authorities mentioned that a police officer instructed them to unload all the luggage and conduct a thorough search. When Nicki asked why they hadn’t searched it before loading it onto the plane, the airport authority explained that ‘although a random check was done, they felt the need to inspect it again.’

When asked why, he responded that it was due to Nicki filming the officer and that the officer suspects that more items may be present.

NICKI MINAJ CLAIMS THE PRE-ROLL BELONGED TO HER SECURITY PERSONNEL

After facing objections over her Instagram videos, she later stated that her security team owned the pre-rolls found in the bags.

She went on to tweet: “Now they said they found weed and that another group of people have to come here to weigh the pre-rolls. Keep in mind they took my bags without my consent. My security has already advised them that those pre-rolls belong to him. Oh yeah, and the pilot wants me to take my IG post down.”

As fans waited for updates from their favorite artist, they formed a #FREENICKI movement on X. Nicki Minaj also took to social media to share her experience of being locked up in a jail cell for approximately five to six hours.

Eventually, she later reached her hotel in Manchester at night. She shared that they had successfully executed their plan to prevent her from performing on stage that night without explicitly mentioning the individuals involved.

In addition, according to Dutch authorities’ statements to various news outlets, Nicki was arrested on suspicion of exporting soft drugs and was fined 350 euros.

Amidst all the chaos and confusion, the artist’s show had to be canceled, as she couldn’t reach the UK on time. Fans were let inside the venue at 7 pm BST and were hopeful about the gig when, unfortunately, the postponement announcement came through at 9:30 pm BST. She, therefore, extended her heartfelt apologies, emphasizing her genuine remorse.
